Cookie Policy

Last updated: 5 September 2026

1. Cookies and local storage

Two different technologies are in play on this Site, and it is worth separating them because they behave very differently.

Local storage is where the games keep your progress and streaks. It stays in your browser, is never sent to us, and is not used to track you.
Cookies are small files that can be read by the party that set them. On this Site the cookies come from our analytics and advertising providers, not from the games themselves.

2. Essential storage (always active)

Without this, the games cannot work: your puzzle would reset on every refresh. It is stored on your device and belongs to you.

Name	Type	Purpose	Expires
Game progress	Essential	Saves the state of the puzzle you are playing so you can return to it the same day.	Until you clear site data
Statistics and streaks	Essential	Games played, win percentage, current and longest streak.	Until you clear site data
Daily completion flag	Essential	Tells the Site you already finished today's puzzle, so it shows the countdown instead.	Until you clear site data
Language preference	Essential	Remembers the site language you chose so we do not ask again.	Until you clear site data
Career setup	Essential	Remembers the last player you created in the career simulator (surname, number, hand, position, nationality) to save you retyping it.	Until you clear site data

3. Analytics cookies

Set by Google Analytics so we can see how many people play and which games are popular. They tell us nothing about who you are.

Name	Type	Purpose	Expires
_ga	Analytics	Distinguishes one browser from another so visits are not double counted.	Up to 2 years
_ga_<ID>	Analytics	Keeps the session state for this specific property.	Up to 2 years
_gid	Analytics	Distinguishes browsers over a short window.	24 hours

4. Advertising cookies

This Site is free because it shows advertising. Google and its partners may set cookies or read existing identifiers to choose which ads you see, to limit how often you see the same one, and to measure whether an ad worked.

These are the ones that matter most for your privacy. Advertising technology of this kind can build a profile of your interests and can recognise you across other websites that use the same providers. They are not necessary for the games to work, and in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland they should only be set with your consent.

Name	Type	Purpose	Expires
__gads / __gpi	Advertising	Used by Google to serve ads, cap repetition and measure performance.	Up to 13 months
IDE / test_cookie	Advertising	Set by Google's ad domains to measure and personalise advertising.	Up to 13 months
Partner cookies	Advertising	Google works with other advertising vendors, each of which may set its own cookies.	Varies by vendor

Google's own explanation of the cookies it uses on partner sites is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Essential storage cannot be turned off, because the games stop working without it. You can always refuse or later withdraw consent for analytics and advertising.

Manage what Google shows you at adssettings.google.com.
Opt out of analytics in every site you visit with Google's browser add-on.
Block third-party cookies entirely in your browser settings. The games will still work.

6. Deleting your data

Clearing your browsing data removes both the cookies and the local storage for this Site:

Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data.
Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Clear Data.
Edge: Settings → Privacy, search and services → Clear browsing data.

This also erases every streak, statistic and saved puzzle you have on this Site, permanently. We hold no backup, because that data never leaves your device.

7. Changes to this policy

If we add or remove a service that uses cookies, we will update this page and the date at the top.
